SERVICE CENTERS
A Service Center is established in an expanding community
where certain Salvation Army services are needed, and can be afforded,
but the community may not be ready to proceed with the development of a
corps community center. Yet it may have already outgrown the "service unit"
concept. The Service Center does not require officers, but employees may
manage all of the activity involved. The ideal goal is that as the community
continues to expand, so will The Salvation Army until such time as a viable
corps program can be established. An additional concept allows for the
establishment of a Service Center in the event that it may become necessary
to close a corps for one reason or another.
Index

representing the Army in communities where there are no appointed Salvation
Army officers. Their functions include raising funds and rendering services
as may be required by local needs. A divisional headquarters staff person
is assigned to act as liaison between the service unit in the community
and The Salvation Army's network of statewide and interstate services.
Local services include, but are not limited to, interim assistance to families
and individuals and comprehensive emergency assistance. Statewide services
